A new build, not a repair

Planning a New Deck in Metro Atlanta

Thinking beyond the old deck? Understand the difference between repair work and a completely new outdoor space before choosing your next step.

Planning a New Deck by West GA Decks

A fresh start, not a patch on the old structure

Replacing an existing outdoor space can be an opportunity to rethink the layout. It is different from repairing boards, reinforcing part of a frame or adding onto an existing structure.

Repair

Replacing a few boards or fixing a localized problem is repair work. It does not automatically address the condition of the foundations, framing or connection to the house.

Add-on

Extending an existing deck depends on the capacity and condition of that structure. A larger surface or a new roof introduces demands that the original design may not have anticipated.

Entirely new build

A newly designed outdoor space allows the layout, foundations and structure to be considered together. Existing demolition, access and disposal need to be discussed explicitly in the scope.

Built around your priorities.

We focus exclusively on new builds — decks, screen rooms and sunrooms — and do not repair or add onto existing structures.

Before the drawings

The details worth thinking through.

Do not assume old framing can stay

Visible boards tell only part of the story. Structural condition, connections and the requirements of the new design need professional assessment.

Reconsider the layout

Before recreating the same footprint, consider the stairs, the route through the yard and where you actually want to sit. The old layout does not have to dictate the new one.

A few questions you may be wondering about.

Can I just replace the surface boards?

That is a resurfacing or repair project, not a completely new build. The condition and suitability of the underlying structure still need to be assessed by a contractor who offers that work.

What if my existing deck appears unsafe?

Avoid using it and arrange an assessment by a qualified local professional. Photos or a website cannot establish that a structure is safe.

Are we a good fit?

We focus exclusively on new builds — decks, screen rooms and sunrooms — and do not repair or add onto existing structures.
